Double walled tents
Double walled tents offer greater comfort and safety. Therefore, all Hilleberg tents consist of an outer and an inner tent. These are linked to each other - but easily detachable - so that the inner is raised simultaneously with the outer tent. The advantages are obvious:
No loose inner tent to think about when pitching the tent.
The inner tent is always protected from the rain when making camp, and there is no flapping flysheet to wrestle into place.
Inner and outer tents can easily be separated when the outer is wet or if you want to use either of the two separately.
There is naturally considerably less condensation in a double-walled tent and the inner warms up faster - crucial for your comfort!
The fabric of the inner tent also protects you from condensation droplets coming from the inside of the outer tent when it is shaken by wind gusts and keeps you from touching the potentially wet surface of the outer.
The outer tent will seldom be completely free of condensation and moisture from the ground and can potentially soak your equipment stored in the vestibule. Zippers and vents can also not be absolutely waterproof. Therefore, it is wise to cover your gear in the vestibule when it is raining heavily or on occasions when there is a lot of humidity in the air.
From a safety standpoint, double-walled tents are superior. Should the outer tent ever get ripped, you still have the protection of the inner tent. A single wall tent would allow a storm to get right to you, with possibly serious consequences!
This construction also offers a high degree of flexibility and versatility: inner and outer tents can be used and/or packed separately. The outer by itself makes an excellent shelter for a lunch break on a day hike while the inner can be used in balmier latitudes when protection from insects is the only prerequisite. All you need are some separate pole holders.
Product Development
It is our ambition to work to the highest standards, from being a just employer to corresponding to the expectations that our customers have of our products. In order to offer tents with the best possible performance in materials and design, we need to be continually working with product development in combination with field tests in the most shifting environments!
The response from our customers and their different needs are of vital importance because every year we sell our tents to both normal hikers and professional users who undertake demanding trips and have high expectations. We go for multi-day outings into the Swedish mountains every month where we test our equipment in all sorts of conditions, find solutions and get inspiration to improve prototypes or existing models.
This is where our best ideas are taking shape.
Every detail or entirely new tents take months or even years of testing before production. No design or solution is put into practice before it passes all the tests. This goes above all for the materials we use. We continually search the market for new developments and choose those that correspond to our criteria, replace when necessary or preserve what is right.
