Low weight - and still stronger
In the hunt for light-weight gear, one is easily enticed by simply the lightest possible, disregarding strength or durability. This may cause safety problems! You can combine both low weight with a high degree of strength. This combination is not cheap since it requires materials of the highest quality and clever solutions - but these attributes define our ambition.
The concept of low weight is one of the predominant drives in our industry. This is advantageous; carrying a lighter load allows for more fun when you are out in the hills. But there are other aspects when choosing your gear: namely longevity. Most often lighter gear does not last as long as heavier gear.
Nobody wants equipment that is too heavy but many lighter materials do not meet the demands one should have on good equipment. We therefore do not compromise in our choice of materials. This can make it quite difficult to find the right components for our products. Prior to production, all materials are scrutinized for their qualities. We do this to make sure that you can enjoy your outdoor pursuits, but also for your safety!
Strength and function
It is important that your gear lasts and works well in poor conditions. We are always wishing for clear skies and sunny days, but often this is not the case. Inadequate gear works reasonably well on pleasant summer days but in howling winds and driving snow it is strength and function upon which you must rely.
We are taking poor weather conditions into consideration when designing our tents: linked inner and outer tents, external pole sleeves, adjustable pole tensioners and peg loops are details that help you when the going gets tough.
A truly safe tent should not only be able to withstand the rigors of bad weather but needs to excel in ease of handling as well. Strong winds do not wait until you have set up and secured your tent with all the pegs and lines!
It is our aim to offer tents that you can set up all by yourself. This is the basis form where we start. It can be hard to pitch a tent in a gale and it is therefore necessary to practice pitching your tent before your departure.
By adapting the functions of our tents to the worst imaginable circumstances we want to enable you to raise your tent in strong winds with cold and darkness even when wearing gloves.
Once you have gained a certain routine in handling your tent in rough conditions, using it in winter is not a major obstacle any more. It will rather add a new, exciting dimension!
Production
We at Hilleberg's manufacture in contrast to most other brands tents in our own factory, in Estonia. Equipment and working conditions are according to Swedish standard. Our permanent staff is trained to our high standards and they are all competent tentmakers. Inner and outer tents are sewn completely by one person who labels every tent with her name. Before the tents are dispatched they are assembled, pitched and completed with lines and then undergo a final inspection.
